Our Smart Team is full of inspiring career journeys! Today, we're excited to share the story of Ilmars Cirulis, our Security and Emergency Response Specialist. More than 11 years ago, Ilmars started his journey with SmartLynx as a Cabin Crew Member.

Ilmars' aviation journey began in 2013 when he decided to try something completely new. "I had never even flown before my first flight as cabin crew," he admits. "Then I joined SmartLynx, and just recently celebrated 11 fun years in the company!"

His career path has been anything but boring. “Over the years, I have steadily progressed through cabin roles such as Senior Cabin Crew Member, Line Trainer, Ground Instructor, and Deputy Cabin Crew Training Manager,” Ilmars shares. Now, he’s landed in our Security Department, taking on a new challenge as an Emergency Response Organization Specialist. 

His experience as cabin crew has helped in every role since. “Throughout my active flying days, I have learned to work in a team, lead the team, and be prepared for whatever may come. Cabin crew life is filled with unexpected surprises, which has helped me develop creative thinking and resilience that is essential in any role in aviation.”

His favorite part of cabin crew life? “I definitely enjoyed visiting various locations, meeting new people, and having amazing experiences that shaped me as a human being as well as a professional. The challenges in the cabin crew role can also be ways to grow and evolve and I chose to approach them with that mindset, which has resulted in great memories.” he shares.
