In the next part of our Crew to Office article series, we share the story of Dace Straupmane – our Talent Acquisition Manager. Dace's journey is an inspiring reminder that life's unexpected opportunities can lead to an incredible career filled with growth, adventure, and finding your true passion.

“Becoming a Cabin Crew member was never in my plans. And if it wasn't for my friend, I wouldn't be here now. 10 years ago, my friend talked me into applying for the Cabin Crew position, I went to an interview, and the rest is history,” says Dace. 

While working as a Cabin Crew, Dace discovered a natural interest in training new Cabin Crew members and sharing knowledge with new colleagues. She explains: "I felt the need to give other newcomers the same support I received when I started working at SmartLynx. I was offered the position as Line Trainer, and that was the first additional role I had and, without even realizing, it carved the path for my further career in aviation." 

In aviation, growing within the industry is important, and the Cabin Crew role provides a direct dive into understanding the operations from the core. Dace explains how her Cabin Crew experience has benefited her current role in Human Resources: "I understand our business, its unique environment, and what it takes to thrive here. This knowledge helps me select the ideal candidates to join the SmartLynx team.

Additionally, the general knowledge I gained as a crew member—covering operational, technical, and safety aspects—has been highly beneficial." Dace believes that even though it is a fantastic industry, aviation is not for everyone. There is no routine when it comes to daily work, and it can challenge your growth as a professional and a person.
